El día de mañana, 1° de diciembre, la banda de rock irlandesa U2 publicará un nuevo disco de estudio (el número 14) que titulan Songs of Experience. Este álbum cuenta, en su versión estándar, con 13 canciones, de donde se destaca el primer sencillo “You’re the Best Thing About Me”, el cual fue liberado el pasado 6 de septiembre y apenas hace unos días, el 17 de noviembre, publicaron el segundo single, “American Soul”. La agrupación tiene programado una gira, Experience + Innocence Tour, en el 2018 para promover Songs of Experience.
Antes de escuchar este nuevo disco (y todos los anteriores de estudio), vamos conociendo un poco de la trayectoria de U2. La banda se formó en Dublín en 1976 y desde entonces sus integrantes han sido Bono (nombre artístico de Paul David Hewson), the Edge (David Howell Evans), Adam Clayton y Larry Mullen Jr. Unos años después, en 1980, lanzaron su primer álbum de estudio, Boy. Al siguiente año publicaron October, al que le siguió su primer disco número uno en el Reino Unido, War (1983). Continuaron con The Unforgettable Fire (1984) y The Joshua Tree (1987), éste último los hizo estrellas internacionales. Los siguientes álbumes en el siglo pasado fueron Rattle and Hum (1988), Achtung Baby (1991), Zooropa (1993), Pop (1997) y All That You Can’t Leave Behind (2000). En la pasada década publicaron How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb (2004) y No Line on the Horizon (2009). Y el álbum más reciente (sin contar el nuevo) se trata de Songs of Innocence, publicado en el 2014.
