Este año se celebra el 20 aniversario de Xenogears, el juego de RPG japonés que fue publicado por Squaresoft (conocida actualmente como Square Enix) para el PlayStation en 1998 (primero en su tierra natal en febrero y después en América en octubre). Aprovechando que hace unos días se lanzó el excelente soundtrack remasterizado (Xenogears Original Soundtrack Revival Disc -the first and the last-), vamos comentando sobre el videojuego para después ver su tráiler y escuchar la nueva edición de la banda sonora.
Como han de suponer, el juego en cuestión es el primero de la franquicia Xeno, la cual continuaría a cargo de Monolith Soft con las series de Xenosaga y Xenoblade Chronicles.
Xenogears fue creado por Tetsuya Takahashi y su esposa Kaori Tanaka. Originalmente se propuso como una historia para el popular Final Fantasy VII pero se decidió desarrollarlo en un proyecto completo, primero como secuela del aclamado Chrono Trigger y después se clasificó como un juego totalmente nuevo.
La historia en Xenogears toma lugar en un mundo donde dos grandes naciones están en guerra por siglos. El protagonista es Fei Fong Wong (en alusión al legendario artista marcial cantonés Wong Fei Hung), un joven que al inicio ha perdido la memoria de su pasado y que deberá de irse de su pueblo después de un accidente. Fei conocerá a un gran repertorio de personajes en su aventura por descubrir quien es en realidad y detener a Deus, un poderoso híbrido entre ser viviente y máquina del espacio exterior que está planeando su resurrección.
Xenogears fue un total éxito en todo el mundo, tanto comercial como de crítica gracias a su guión, gameplay, gráficos (en ese tiempo) y su apartado sonoro, el cual corrió a cargo de Yasunori Mitsuda. Aquí les dejamos un viejo avance de éste título y después encontrarán un reproductor con la nueva edición del álbum musical que fue supervisado por Yasunori. Como extra, más abajo encontrarán dos álbumes de arreglos, Creid y Myth.
