Nota Original (06/02/2019):
El día de hoy se ha publicado el primer tráiler oficial de Shaft (titulada en un principio Son of Shaft), una película estadounidense de acción y crimen dirigida por Tim Story, escrita por Kenya Barris y Alex Barnow, y con las actuaciones de Samuel L. Jackson, Jessie T. Usher, Regina Hall y Richard Roundtree. Esta cinta tiene programado su estreno en salas de cine en Estados Unidos para este 14 de junio e internacionalmente se espera dos semanas después, el 28 de junio, a través de Netflix.
Aprovechando la ocasión, antes de conocer un poco de la trama de este filme, el quinto de la franquicia Shaft, primero comentemos un poco de los cuatro largometrajes anteriores para después ver el mencionado avance de la nueva producción y escuchar las bandas sonoras de las primeras películas.
En 1971 se estrenó Shaft, una de las primeras cintas del cine de explotación negra (Blaxploitation) en donde seguimos a John Shaft (Roundtree) detective privado contratado por un gángster de Harlmen para que rescate a su hija de un mafioso italiano que la secuestró.
Desde luego, el filme fue exitoso, garantizando futuras entregas. Su soundtrack, compuesto por Isaac Hayes, ganó el Premio Grammy en la categoría de Mejor Banda Sonora mientras que la melodía “Theme from Shaft” obtuvo el Premio Óscar a la Mejor Canción Original.
Los seguidores no tuvieron que esperar mucho, ya que en 1972 debutó la primer secuela, Shaft vuelve a Harlem / Shaft’s Big Score!. Roundtree regresó al papel de Shaft, quien se encargará de detener al asesino de un viejo amigo en las duras calles de la ciudad.
La trilogía original terminó en Shaft en África / Shaft in Africa (1973). Aquí, Shaft (Roundtree) es reclutado para introducirse encubierto para destruir una red de esclavitud moderna donde jóvenes africanos son engañados para ir a París en donde trabajarán encadenados.
Pasarían casi tres décadas para que la franquicia continuara. En el 2000 llegó al cine su cuarta parte, titulada simplemente Shaft. Su trama se centra en John Shaft II (Jackson), un detective de la ciudad de Nueva York y sobrino del personaje principal de los tres largometrajes previos que se embarcará en una misión personal para asegurarse que el hijo de un magnate de bienes raíces sea llevado ante la justicia después de un asesinato por motivos raciales.
En la película que se estrenará este año, se enfoca en John Shaft Jr. (Usher), también conocido como John ‘JJ’ Shaft III, un agente del FBI y experto en ciberseguridad cuyo mejor amigo muere en circunstancias sospechosas. Para revelar la verdad, deberá pedir ayuda a su alejado padre John Shaft II (Jackson) y así resolver el crimen. Durante la aventura, padre e hijo se unirán con el legendario tío John Shaft (Roundtree).
