El día de ayer, 14 de octubre, la aclamada banda de rock estadounidense Red Hot Chili Peppers lanzó a la venta Return of the Dream Canteen, su disco de estudio número trece y el segundo estrenado este año. Aprovechando la ocasión, repasemos rápidamente la carrera de esta agrupación para después escuchar este álbum y claro, también los doce anteriores.
Red Hot Chili Peppers, actualmente formado por Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith y John Frusciante, fue fundado en 1983 en la ciudad de Los Ángeles, California, por compañeros de clases en la Escuela Preparatoria Fairfax.
El primer disco, titulado The Red Hot Chili Peppers, se publicó en 1984, y se le acredita como el primer álbum del género funk metal. Al siguiente año lanzaron Freaky Styley y en 1987 la tercera producción, The Uplift Mofo Party Plan, la cual fue la primera en entrar en el Billboard 200.
Después del cuarto disco, Mother’s Milk (1989), el grupo obtendría su primer éxito comercial con Blood Sugar Sex Magik en 1991 gracias a los sencillos “Under the Bridge,” “Give It Away,” “Suck My Kiss,” “Breaking the Girl” and “If You Have to Ask”.
One Hot Minute (1995) fue otro buen logro, pero el álbum más exitoso comercialmente sería el séptimo, Californication, publicado en 1999. Los triunfos seguirían con By the Way (2002) y Stadium Arcadium (2006), éste último fue la primera producción discográfica que alcanzó el primer lugar en el Billboard 200.
Los discos 10, 11 y 12 serían I’m with You (2011), The Getaway (2016) y Unlimited Love (2022).
