Paul McCartney – Discografía (1970-2020)

El reconocido y galardonado cantautor inglés Paul McCartney, a sus 76 años de edad, ha publicado hoy, 7 de septiembre, su decimoséptimo disco de estudio como solista. Esta nueva producción, titulada Egypt Station, cuenta con 16 canciones que fueron grabadas en estudios localizados en las ciudades de Los Ángeles (Estados Unidos), Londres y  Sussex (Inglaterra). Antes de escuchar el mencionado álbum, vamos recordando un poco sobre la trayectoria de este popular artista.

McCartney es uno de los compositores y cantantes más exitosos de toda la historia, así como también uno de los más influyentes de la industria musical. Se convirtió en un ícono de la música al ser el bajista y cantante de la aclamada banda inglesa The Beatles, a la que perteneció desde sus inicio en 1960 y su separación en 1970, mismo año en el que lanzaría su primera producción en solitario titulado McCartney, aunque no tuvo buena recepción.

En 1971 lanzó el disco Ram junto a su esposa Linda, y también formó la banda Wings con la que tuvo éxito comercial (aunque se disolvería en 1981). Sin perder tiempo, McCartney comenzó a grabar su segundo álbum de solista, McCartney II, que debutó en 1980. Dos años después publicó Tug of War, con el que alcanzaría la posición número uno en las listas de ventas de muchos países. Su éxito continuó en 1983 con el lanzamiento de Pipes of Peace, en el que se incluyó el hit “Say Say Say” grabado junto a Michael Jackson.

Al siguiente año publicó Give My Regards to Broad Street, el cual también actúa como soundtrack del filme del mismo nombre protagonizado por McCartney. El sexto disco de estudio, Press to Play, debutó en 1986, seguido dos años más tarde por CHOBA B CCCP, una producción originalmente exclusiva para la entonces Unión Soviética que consistía principalmente en covers de temas de rock and roll (y que se publicó internacionalmente hasta 1991).

Su octavo álbum, Flowers in the Dirt (1989), alcanzó la posición número uno en el Reino Unido. Cuatro años después debutó Off the Ground, seguido por Flaming Pie en 1997. Su disco número 11, Run Devil Run (1999), se conforma principalmente de covers poco conocidos de rock and roll.

En la primera década de este siglo McCartney lanzó Driving Rain (2001), Chaos and Creation in the Backyard (2005) y Memory Almost Full (2007). Kisses on the Bottom (2012), su decimoquinto álbum, es otra compilación primariamente de covers (aunque aquí son de jazz y pop). Finalmente, en el 2013, se comenzó a vender New, con el que llegó estar en el Top 3 de las listas de popularidad de Estados Unidos y el Reino Unidos.
