American Epic es una miniserie documental co-producida y dirigida por Bill Holderman y presentada por los productores ejecutivos Jack White, T Bone Burnett y Robert Redford. Estos filmes han sido proyectados como un trabajo en progreso en varios prestigiosos festivales de cine desde el año pasado y han obtenido varios premios aparte de las buenas críticas.
Estas cintas se enfocan en el nacimiento de la música moderna de los Estados Unidos, examinando el periodo de la década de 1920 cuando las disqueras norteamericanas exploraron las zonas rurales en busca de nuevas audiencias para la música y allí encontraron canciones étnicas, de country y blues que también se grabaron. Los largometrajes también contienen fotografías y nuevos metrajes descubiertos de esa época, así como entrevistas exclusivas con algunos de los últimos supervivientes que vivieron en esa era que se convirtió en una revolución cultural que unió a la nación.
El proyecto de American Epic se conforma del documental histórico de tres partes (el cual se transmitirá al público en general de Estados Unidos los días 16, 23 y 30 de mayo en el canal PBS), una película donde se interpreta música (American Epic Sessions, se estrena en dicho canal el 6 de junio) y también varios álbumes musicales con canciones de la era ahora remasterizadas. Con respecto a estos discos, los primeros han sido publicados hace un par de días (se esperan otro a princiios de junio): American Epic: The Soundtrack contiene una selección de 15 temas mientras que American Epic: The Collection es una compilación de 5 discos que en conjunto incluyen 100 canciones. *Actualización (09/06/2017): El día de hoy se liberó un nuevo soundtrack de este largometraje, American Epic: The Sessions, el cual incluye música del concierto con interpretaciones de artistas varios (como Willie Nelson y Elton John).
